George A. Brown, 85, of Waverly, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
He was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Waverly, the son of Henry and Sallie Conlee Brown. He married Louise Miller on June 9, 1941, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Larry (wife, Karen) of Waverly; three grandsons, including Glen (wife, Jennifer) of Waverly who was raised in the home; seven great-grandchildren; one sister Mary Akers of Roodhouse; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Gregg "Bucky" Spradlin and Vernon "Gip" Miner. He was preceded in death by two sons, George A. and Frank; and two brothers, Wilbur and Orland.
Mr. Brown retired as a grain and livestock farmer in the Waverly area. He loved tilling the soil and tending to the animals. He was a past President of the Waverly Lions Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He also served on the Waverly School Board. His hobbies included riding his four-wheeler; playing cards, collecting aluminum cans and wintering in Quartside, Ariz.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
