Marjorie Poston

Nov 25 1924 - Dec 25 2021 (Age 97) Marjorie was born November 25, 1924 to Cleo Lee Brown and DeEtta (Swisher) Brown and grew up on their family farm in Jerico Springs, Cedar County, MO. She studied piano and was later made church pianist while still rather young. Following high school graduation, she taught K-12 in a one-room school house at Cedar Hall School for 2 years, then attended Southwest Missouri State Teacher's College, better known as SMS in those days. She studied stenography and secretarial skills and by 1946 worked for a law firm in Springfield MO, including assistance with the war effort. It was in Springfield through a church group that she met her future husband Melvin H. Poston who was attending Drury College. She was known for her flaming red hair, and her valentine card to him with the picture of a can of tomatoes that said "Nobody Can Love You Like Your Tomato Can" seemed to seal the deal. After he graduated in 1951, they married and moved to Indianapolis where they both worked for 4 years for the P.R. Mallory Co., he as an engineer and she in their Sales Department. In 1955 Melvin was hired by Westinghouse in Baltimore so they moved to Maryland, eventually settling in Annapolis. Here she gave birth to two children, Roy Poston (1957) and Cynthia (Poston) Zeissler (1959). Marjorie was the most devoted and sweetest wife and mother imaginable and was very involved with her church. Marjorie moved into an assisted living facility several years after her husband's death, where her warmth, kindness, sweet nature, and cheer were greatly appreciated. She gave great joy to other residents and staff by playing nearly every day many old 1920s-40s tunes and hymns on the piano in a unique, professional, and lively underlying rhythmic style that you just don't hear anywhere. One of her favorites was "O Solo Mio", but with her special rhythmic twist. There, she passed away peacefully from heart failure in Gaithersburg MD on Dec 25, 2021. Her husband "Mel" preceded her in death after 62 years of loving marriage. She is survived by her children Roy (Wendy) Poston, Cynthia (Mitchell) Zeissler, and grandsons Joshua Poston and Hans Poston. Marjorie wanted her obituary to express gratitude for her parents, husband, and "teachers throughout our schools and also our fellow schoolmates. Just want to thank you for being YOU." She also said that she wanted her obituary to close with "I took Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and have never been sorry. In times like these, we all need hope for tomorrow and peace for today. He has said, "Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee." Is. 26:3 and "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Heb 13:5. This is so true. Also, as we have moved from one place to another, we have sought out fellowships of like believers and have met some of the sweetest people on earth. Whether it is Jerico, Indianapolis, or Annapolis, MD, it is all the same. There are a lot of wonderful people. Thank you."
