Mildred Capps Brown, 81, of Rockwood, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at her home.

A faithful member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Rockwood, she gave her heart to the Lord both in service and song. Singing God's praises gave her great joy in life. She had many friends who loved her and will miss her. After retiring from Palm Beach Co., Rockwood, she spent her time caring for others, reading, cooking, growing flowers, collecting dolls and cherishing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to travel and was able to see many new places.

She was preceded in death by mother, Mary Ethel "Toots" Adcox Capps; father, Mark Capps; and nieces, Linda Capps Fritts and Stephanie Edwards Hinds.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Carol Brown, Michael Steven Brown and Betty Evans; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Brown; brothers and sister-in-law, Jack and Juanita Capps and Bill Capps; grandchildren, Scott Brown, James Brown, Richard and Liz Evans, Melanie Proctor, Mark and Tracy Proctor, Jerry and Lisa Proctor and Michael and Julia Proctor; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Proctor, Conner Proctor, Garrison Josh Proctor, Preston Proctor, Chanel Proctor, Emily Proctor, Brandi Proctor, Taylor Proctor and Travis Proctor; nephews and niece-in-law, Jerry Capps and Dave and Mary Capps; niece and nephew-in-law, Mary and Jim Edwards; special grand-niece, Ariel Smith; special lifelong friends, Bob and Wanda Easter, Maggie Behimer, Evelyn and Roy Trentham, Gustave and Mary Easter and Betty and Tommy Childs; many other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, in Davis Funeral Home, Harriman. Funeral service will follow, with Elder Bill Brown and Major Keith Nichols officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood.
