Gary Michael Brotherton, 59, of Keokuk, died at 4:55 PM Friday, November 21, 2008, at his home.

Gary was born June 12, 1949, in Kahoka, Missouri, the son of Edmond Henry and Faith Holcomb Brotherton. He married Sally L. Glasscock on October 17, 1970, in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives. He served in the United States Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with a rank of CE-3.

He had lived in Keokuk since he was in the 4th grade. He was employed as an electrical technician/ robotic technician by Associated Tool Makers. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Keokuk, Jackson Township Fire Department, Keokuk Coin Club, Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club of America, and the Quinsippi Ramblers Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fireworks and was a member of the Pyrotechnic Guild of America.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; a daughter, Chelsey Riffle and her husband, Rob, of Donnellson, Iowa; two sons, Yates Brotherton and his wife, Mandy, of West Des Moines, Iowa and Ryan Brotherton and his wife, LeAnn, of Keokuk; three grandchildren, Devon and Alicia Riffle of Donnellson and Jaralyn Brotherton of West Des Moines; his mother, Faith Holcomb of Florida; two sisters, Linda Raymond and her husband, Harold, of Florida and Wanda Morris of Moline, Illinois; sister-in-law, Eileen Brotherton of Wayland, Missouri; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepmother, Vera Brotherton; and a brother, Wayne Brotherton.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial with full military rites followed at Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Keokuk or to Jackson Township Fire Department.
