NORFOLK - Barbara A. Brooks, 82, of the 6100 block of Ball Avenue, passed from this world to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, surrounded by her family at a Richmond hospital. She was born April 11, 1927, the daughter of Charlotte Hewes Maguire and Arthur Maguire, and raised in Rhode Island where she met and married her loving and devoted husband, William J. Brooks. They settled in Norfolk and remained married for 46 years, until his death in 1994. She worked as a paraprofessional with Norfolk Public Schools for twenty years and retired in 1991. She was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Norfolk.
To cherish and remember her, she is survived by a son, Michael Brooks and his wife Susan Brooks of Virginia Beach, three daughters, Dawne Brooks-Gulla and her husband Frank Gulla of Richmond, Sandra Mastracco of Chesapeake, Stephanie Jordan and her husband David Jordan of Glen Allen; eleven grandchildren, Frank Romero and his spouse Kathleen , Monica Bilouris and her spouse Milt , Misty Kipper, Leslie Mastracco, Daniel Brooks, Melanie Brooks, Jamie Jordan, Joey Jordan, Jake Jordan, Beth Bisgaard and her spouse Anders , Sean Gulla and his spouse Katie; six great-grandchildren, Frankie Romero, Raven Ellington, David Bilouris, Michelle Bilouris, Callie Kipper, and Bella Mastracco; and nieces, Rhoda Ryan of New York and Faith Quinn of Florida , and nephew William McCormick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 18, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 17th from 4-6:00 PM at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel.
