Probably born in Walker County, Georgia, but I am not positive. He was an older brother of my great grandfather, Tamerlane X. Brooks ("Tam"). They fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War. They were captured at the Battle of Chickamauga, taken to Camp Morton, Indiana, where they were imprisoned. After quite some time there, they decided to live free or die trying. They and some others made their escape. Some made it and some didn't. "Clint" and "Tam" Brooks both made it. I think they fought some more skirmishes, after walking from Indiana back toward Tennessee, and eventually made it to Hill County, Texas. One of their still older brothers, C.N. Brooks or Cincinnatus Ney Brooks had already established himself in Hill County and suggested they come to Hill County. They did. C.N. Brooks is buried here at Hickey Cemetery and Tam Brooks is buried at Old Hillsboro City Cemetery.
