Services for Laura Sue Lofton of Brookhaven are 4 p.m. Monday, May 13, at First Baptist Church with burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, May 12, from 5-9 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home and Monday, May 13, from 3-4 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lofton, 82, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Beverly Health Care Center. She was born in Louisville on May 5, 1920, to Joe Brooks and Kathryn Gay Ezell.

She worked in Birmingham during World War II and moved to Brookhaven in 1946, where she worked as a lab technician at King's Daughters Hospital. Brookhaven became her home when she met and married the late W.D. Lofton Jr.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the WMU. She was a member of the Wildwood Garden Club and served on the board of King's Daughters Medical Center (Willing Hearts Circle). She worked at Lofton's Department Store until her retirement in 1990.

She was the valedictorian at Louisville High School and graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in chemistry.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.

Survivors are her sons, William D. "Bill" Lofton III of Brookhaven and Robert Carol Lofton of Hazlehurst; daughter, Kathryn Sue Lofton Stevens of Apopka, Fla.; sisters, Charlotte Salter of Jackson and Jo Evelyn Fox of Louisville; and six grandchildren.
