Aged Local Woman Died Last Night
--Mrs. Richard B. Brooks, 92 years old died at her home in North Madison street at midnight last night. She had been in failing health since the death of her husband, February 22, 1934.
--Anna Montgomery, daughter of John R. and Alice (Keyes) Montgomery was born October 11, 1847 on Wolf Island, Ont. When a young woman she went to Watertown, N.Y., to live and resided there until her marriage in 1878 to Richard Broadhead Brooks. She came to Marshall as a bride, later residing for several years in Chicago, Muskegon, and Grand Rapids. In 1890 she returned to Marshall and had since resided in this city. For a number of years Mrs. Brooks' home was a popular eating place for teachers and others who enjoyed partaking of her excellent food. It has been said many times that Mrs. Brooks lived a century too soon, for to have a gift shop, a hotel, or some other business project was her life-long ambition.
-Loyal to friends
--That she was beloved by many was especially evident at holiday time, when cards and remembrances came to her in abundance practically from everywhere. Her loyalty to her friends, and her sharing of what she had with those less fortunate will long be remembered. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Episcopal church.
--Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Olive Paddock Brooks of Detroit, Miss Alice Maria Brooks of Cleveland, and Mrs. Thomas Jeffery of Ironwood; three grandchildren, Thomas Brooks Jeffery of Detroit, and Marjorie Anne and Ruth Jeffery of Ironwood; four sisters, Mrs. John Patterson and Miss Mattie Montgomery of Watertown, N.Y., and the Misses Edith and Minnie Montgomery of Wolf Island, Ont., and a brother Frank Montgomery of Wolf Island.
