BROOKS, Orpha J. - Of Grand Blanc, age 92, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her residence. Orpha was born in Flint, Michigan on October 10, 1914, the daughter of the late Rexford and Fleda Glover and was a resident of the Flint area most of her life. Orpha graduated from Flint Northern High School Class of 1932. She then graduated from Hurley School of Nursing in 1936. Orpha married John Brooks on November 28, 1936 in Clio. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past November. She was a registered nurse at Hurley Medical Center and for 15 years at McLaren Regional Medical Center. While at McLaren, Orpha was instrumental in establishing the intensive care and cardiac units. She was the Assistant Director of Nursing for the critical care area for many years. Orpha was a member of the McLaren Hospital Auxiliary Club and McLaren Retirees Club. Orpha was a longtime member of both Community Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are husband, John;
daughter-in-law Nancy and husband Jim Moore of Flint; 2 grandchildren, Doug and wife Eve Brooks of Port Huron, Bethany Brooks West and husband Jerry of Lake Ann, Michigan; 7 great-grandchildren, Kristina; twins, Michael and Bryan, Marissa and Kathryn Brooks, Brittany Brooks and Camden West; 2 sisters, Lois Passon of Arizona and Beatrice Haley of Traverse City; God-daughter, Pam Haley of Cadillac; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John Rex Brooks; 3 brothers, Frank Glover, Rex Glover and Bob Glover.
