Esther Marie Broeder, 81, of Glendive, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Glendive Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive with Rev. Avis Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with the arrangements.
Esther was born January 28, 1927 in Portal, North Dakota. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Otto and Alma (Anderson) Nygaard on a farm near Northgate, Saskatchewan. Esther received her early education in a one room school in Northgate. She was a good student and was able to complete her high school education in two years by correspondence through the Department of Education in Regina, Saskatchewan. She later attended a commercial course at the Collegiate in Estevan, Saskatchewan where she learned short-hand, typing, English and accounting.
Esther moved to Minot, North Dakota where she worked for the Kamin Coal Company and later for the Riebe Auto Supply.
Esther married Walter Broeder on September 29, 1946 in Flaxton, North Dakota. She and her husband moved to Glendive in 1949 and opened Walt's Electric in 1954. Walt preceded Esther in death on January 28, 2000. Esther continued to work at Walt's Electric as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 2006.
Esther enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader.
Survivors include three sons; Wallace Broeder and his wife Bonnie and Warren Broeder and his wife Kathy all of Glendive and Allan Broeder and his wife Judy of Gering, Nebraska, five grandchildren; Wesley Broeder and his wife Johnlyn of Spearfish, South Dakota, Wade Broeder and his wife Lisa of Windsor, Colorado, Janel Wilcox and her husband Marty of Flagstaff, Arizona, Kristi Hourigan and her husband Bill of Bismarck, North Dakota and Rebecca Broeder of Missoula, Montana, eight great grandchildren and three cousins; Kenny Nelson and his wife Bea, Beverly Moberg and her husband Arlo and LaVerna Hughey and her husband John.
