Mrs.Eliza Uhl Brodbeck, known to everyone in Marseilles and vicinity as "Grandma" died this morning at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Brodbeck was nearly ninety-two years of age and the oldest woman in Marseilles. She had been ill for some time, but had been confined to her home but a week.
Mrs.Brodbeck whose maiden name was Miss Eliza Uhl, was born in Millersburg,Ohio, Nov.25,1823. She spent her girlhood days there and in 1842 was united in marriage with George Brodbeck at Millersburg. They moved to Rome, Illinois, since that time where they lived until 1869, when they moved to Marseilles. Since that time, 46 years ago, Mrs.Brodbeck had lived in Marseilles. There were nine children, eight of whom survive. Her husband preceded her in death nearly 40 years ago. Mrs.Brodbeck and her son for a number of years conducted the dry goods business in Marseilles, which is now conducted by Brodbeck & Clauser.
Mrs.Brodbeck was a member of the Methodist Church all her life.
The surviving children are, John of Peoria, George of Marseilles, James of Marseilles, Charles of Kinsley,Kansas, Archibald of Avon, Illinois, Mrs. John Barber, Marseilles, Mrs. Anna Clauser, Marseilles,and Mrs. Laura Wood, Iliff, Colorado. One son, Alfred, is dead. There are also three brothers living, Frank Uhl of Leavenworth, Kansas, Arch Uhl of Leavenworth, Kansas and James Uhl of Millersburg, Ohio.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church. Burial will in Riverview Cemetery.
