Marjorie M. Baxter, 72, Harveyville, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born May 21, 1931, at Auburn, the daughter of Henry Edwin and Dorothy Irene Cellers Brobst. She grew up in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School. She attended Washburn University in Topeka. Mrs. Baxter was a member of Harveyville United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and served as treasurer. She was a member of the Quilting Group at the church and a past member of the Harveyville Grange and the Harveyville Hi-Lites HDU Club. She also served as a 4-H leader for several years. She married John "Jack" Baxter on Feb. 18, 1951, in Auburn Presbyterian Church. She was a farm wife all her married life. She worked outside the home in various positions, and served as Postmaster Relief at the Harveyville Post Office from 1986 to 1996. He survives at home. Other survivors include three Connie Converse, and her husband, Kirk, Harveyville, Cindy Lexow, and her husband, John, Emporia, and Brenda Wigger, and her husband, Dean, Pomona; three sisters, Virginia Dyche, Maryville, Mo., and Barbara Koci and Karen Franke, both of Topeka; two brothers, Virgil Brobst, Long Beach, Calif., and Vernon Brobst, Lecompton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Mrs. Baxter was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Emily Wigger. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harveyville United Methodist Church. Burial will e in Simerwell Cemetery, east of Auburn. Mrs. Baxter will lie in state after 4 p.m. Friday at Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame, where relatives and friends will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. The casket will be closed at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, 66606; or to Harveyville United Methodist Church, Harveyville, 66431.Published in the Topeka Capital-Journal on 7/24/2003.
