During the latter days of WWII, Marilynn worked as a telephone operator and instructor for Michigan Bell Telephone in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After having shared thirty years of marriage, the then Rev. Bouters passed away suddenly in August of 1977.

The Bouters marriage produced two children, both who remain; Richard Lee (Gayle) Bouters of Boyne City, and Marsha Diane Bouters (Debra K. Meert), also of Boyne City. Also remaining are two grandsons, Christopher (Melissa) Bouters of Boyne City, and Timothy (Janese) Bouters of Lansing.
