Wanda Karr, 78, of Lubbock, formerly of Crosbyton, passed from this life on Monday afternoon in the Covenant Women's and Children's Hospital.
Wanda Gayle Brixey was born on Jan. 21, 1933, in Crosbyton to Frank M. and Gertrude Summers Brixey. She graduated as valedictorian from Crosbyton High School and then married James T. "Jimmy" Karr on Jan. 28, 1951, in Crosbyton. Jimmy preceded her in death in 2001.
Wanda moved to Lubbock in 2003. She was a member of the Oakwood Baptist Church and had been their organist for many years. She was the coordinator for the XYZ Adult Senior Group. She was a 50-year plus member of the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton and was also their organist. She was the teacher of the Dorcas Class for many years. She had worked in various banking institutions and recently has worked with the American State Bank in Lubbock.
Wanda is survived by her three sons and their wives, Ricky and Amy of Olton, Robby and L'Rae of Crosbyton, and Roger and Kristin of Lubbock; brother, Frank N. Brixey of Booneville, Ark.; sister, Evelyn Cosper of Artesia, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Josh Kenney, Kylen Karr, Chesley Kirk, Austin Kirk, Bradley Karr, Brett Karr and Shelbye Karr; and two great-grandchildren, Piper and Pierce Kenney.
