Lee Amos Britton was born March 19, 1917 to Randolph Marion (R.M.) and Virgie Lee Whitfield Britton, the eighth child in a large family of 14 children, and twin to Luie Enos Britton.
He always said his family was poor in material things, but rich in love from their parents and for each other. His dad, like so many others during that time in our country, was a share cropper who moved his family quite often in Parker County, Texas. Records indicate whose farm each of the children were born on, including two who died at birth.
Lee left school after the 9th grade to help his mom and dad on the farm. He joined the U.S. Army in June of 1940, before World War II began. He served in the Pacific and participated in several battles.
He met, courted and ultimately married Shirley Louise Feaster on December 31, 1941. From this union three children were born, Jimmie Lee, Delores Ann, and Carlton Lynn.
His beloved Louise died in 1973 and he remarried in 1977. He and his second wife, Beatrice Dixon, had a great relationship. They loved to travel in their camper and thoroughly enjoyed their life together.
In 1990 Lee was diagnosed with colon cancer which he bravely fought until his death in May 1991.
Lee was a kind, thoughtful, gentle person who loved to pull jokes on his family and friends and was always ready for a new adventure. He is greatly missed and lives on in the hearts and memories of his family and friends.
