Joseph Brinton was the son of Jane Thatcher and William Brinton II.

Joseph married his first wife, Mary Peirce, at Concord Meeting on December 6 1711. They are known to have had thirteen children: Ann Brinton Cock, Jane Brinton, Mary Brinton Jones, Joseph Brinton, John Brinton, James Brinton, Caleb Brinton, William Brinton, Jane Brinton Temple, Hannah Brinton Hall, Pheobe (Phebe) Brinton Eves Jacobs, and George Brinton.

After his first wife's death, Joseph was remarried to Mary Elgar (the widow of Joseph Elgar) on April 14, 1748. They had no children.

Joseph Brinton, s/o William and Jane (Thatcher) Brinton married (first) Mary (Peirce) Brinton with whom he had 14 children, and (second) Mary (Elgar) Brinton. He served as an Assessor, as a Justice of the Peace and represented Chester County in the PA Assembly.
