William Donald "Bill" Brinker, age 80, of Port Huron and formerly Novi died July 4, 2013. He was the son of the late Dorothy and Vincent, born in Chesterfield Township on August 16th, 1932.
He was married to the late Barbara Ann Brown and they had four sons: Marc Jason (Suzanne), Spencer Thomas (Roei), Daniel Tye (Laura), and Matthew Vincent (Colleen). Bill thoroughly enjoyed his nine grandchildren: Alexandra, David, Elliot, Ean, Alec, Alicia, Kyle, Akhet, and Aneut. He is survived by his loving partner Charles J. Merigian. The 6th of 10 children, he is survived by his sisters Kathleen Johnson and Patricia Frazier (Michael), and his brother Ronald Brinker.
Mr. Brinker served four years in the USAF, and was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in Washington, D.C. and Japan. He graduated from Central Michigan College, and served as a teacher for 36 years in the public schools. He taught for the DOD in Libya, France, and Turkey. The last 29 of his 36 years as a teacher were spent in the Farmington Public Schools. Bill had been active in politics in Novi and Oakland County, and was a member of the commission that wrote the charter for the city of Novi. Upon his retirement, Bill moved to Port Huron where he continued to serve his community. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening and several times won "Yard of the Year" award in Port Huron, for which he was justifiably proud.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday in the Smith Family Funeral Home – North, 1525 Hancock Street. Visitation will be Saturday from 3-6 PM and Sunday beginning at 1 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com.
