|Death: ||Feb. 25, 1892|
Died, at the home on the farm in Seventy-Six township, Thursday, Feb. 25, 1892, at 4:05 p.m., after an illness of nine weeks, MRS. MAHALA BRILES, wife of George M. Briles, deceased, aged 68 years, 8 months and 20 days. She leaves two daughters and one son, besides two brothers-one in Oregon and one in Muscatine-to mourn her loss.
"Aunt Mahala," as she was called by her many friends, was born I n Gallia, Ohio, Nov. 5, 1825, and came to Iowa when she was 13 years of age. She was beloved by all for her many noble qualities of mind and heart. She was of a gentle, quiet disposition. She bore her long suffering with patience and left all to the Master's care; but the dear mother's voice is still in death only to answer with joy the final summons when Gabriel calls to judgment.
She was laid to rest, with loving hands, in the Kiser cemetery, not far from the home where she lived fifty-three years.
"Dearest mother, thou hast left us,
And thy loss we deeply feel,
It is God who hast bereft us,
At His feet we humbly kneel."
"'Twas not in anger, not in wrath,
The Reaper came that day.
‘Twas an angel visited the green earth
And took our dear mother away."
