Local Man Is Killed In Auto Crash
A Carnegie man was killed and seven of the eight passengers in the second car involved in a two-car collision occurring about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on SH 152, 12 miles west of Binger, were injured.
Killed instantly in the crash at an intersection near Eakly was Alfred Lee Bright, 36-year-old Carnegie man. He was the eleventh Caddo county fatality this year.
Bright, an employee of the DeLong Tire Company of Carnegie, was fatally injured when the car he was driving onto Highway 152 from the north swerved into the path of an east-bound car driven by J.B. Strickland, 42, of Loveland, Texas, Mike Hellwege, highway patrolmen who investigated the accident, reported. Bright suffered a crushed chest and a broken neck when his car rolled over on him after being struck by the Texas car. He was the only passenger in his car.
Passengers in the second car suffering injuries in the collision were: A.C. Strickland, 69, father of the driver, was sent to an Oklahoma City hospital suffering with possible fractured collar bone; his wife, Dollie, 54 suffered back injuries; Charles Lewis Newport, 14, a son of Mrs. Strickland by a former marriage, compound fracture of both legs and head injuries; Debbie Strickland, 7, and a brother, Arthur, minor injuries. Two passengers Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sharp, sustained only minor injuries.
Bright was reported to be enroute to Binger from the home of relatives near Eakly when accident occurred.
Funeral services for Bright were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist church. Rev. W.F. crow, pastor, officiating.
He was born May 31, 1921, at Lookeba. He was married to Miss Evelyn Jean Hooker on December 30, 1948, at Dodge City, Kansas. They had four children. He spent five years in the navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Alfred Lee jr. and Melvie Eugene; and one daughter, Sherry Lynn; his mother, Mrs. Rosa Bright of Binger; his father, Barney Bright of El Reno; one brother, Melvie, of Long Beach, Calif.
