Born in Zimmerman, Minnesota, Mom and her sister Vivian were the children of John Spencer and Ivy Briggs. Her mother died when she was very young and her father left the girls, who were raised by members of his family. Mom left Minnesota as a teenager to work in Chicago as a receptionist at the company where her future husband worked. It was a classic case of love at first sight (at least on the part of Dad), but he always was a great salesman. It worked.
Mom and Dad, with more than 60 years together in this life, created a large, growing, loving family and we have thrived as a product of their wonderful parenting. They will always be missed in a huge way and remembered for the countless ways they built their love into our hearts.
All three of their children, Evelyn, Al Jr. and Marilyn have, in their own time, built fine families who, in their turn, have built yet another generation of even finer families and yes, the next generation is already well-started. There are: 17 Grandchildren, 59 Great Grandchildren and 18 Great-Greats, Quite a crew, and all because an older guy swept a 16 year-old off her feet. It seems to have worked pretty well.
We have much to celebrate here, and it is to Mom's honor that those of us left behind are happier for her than we are sad for ourselves. In keeping with our Lord's teachings, it should always be that way and we can look forward to the day when we can rejoin her in heaven.
Memories and pictures of Mom's life will be posted on this website where you are welcome to add your memories, comments or pictures.--Evergreen Washelli Funeral Homes
