EDELYN BRIGGS BENNETT, 77, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 1998 at The Methodist Hospital. She was born April 1, 1921 in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1937 and attended The University of Houston. She was a fourth generation Houstonian and was the granddaughter of Capt. Henry B. Scherffius, former Mayor of Houston. She was a longtime member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husbands Andrew M. Fossler and Marvin J. Bennett. She is survived by her daughter Emily Leseman and her husband Gary; her sons Andrew Fossler and his wife Cheryl and Norman Lee Smith and his wife Joann; grandchildren Linda Leseman, Katherine Leseman and Beth Smith; cousins Ann B. Shine of Alexandria, Virginia and Susan Eley of Matthews, Virginia. The family wishes to thank especially Dr. Robert J. Luchi and his staff with Baylor Geriatric Medicine Associated as well as the loving care provided by Bernice Griggs. Friends may call on Thursday, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. for visitation. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 18, 1998, in the chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, with The Rev. Dr. Peter G. Thomas officiating interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice.
