Alfred Briggs was elected to the assembly from El Dorado County, CA in 1853 and 1858 respectively to the republican anti-slavery ticket. In 1864 he was appointed from Abraham Lincoln as the Collector of the Internal Revenue Service for the 4th District of California. He held this position for 9 years.
