Olaus Edgar Bridgewater was born on 4 February 1873, first child and eldest son of James Alonzo Bridgewater and Margaret Permelia Faris. Olaus was a farm and railroad laborer much of his adult life. He owned a farm in Vienna Township in Scott County. Olaus was married to Minnie B. Elliott who was born 20 September 1877.

Olaus and Minnie were the parents of 9 children: Howard L. Bridgewater who married Bertha Horner; Hazel M. Bridgewater; Muriel H. Bridgewater; Raymond E. Bridgewater who married ; Forrest S. Bridgewater; Frances L. Bridgewater who married a Mr. Kent; Albert E. Bridgewater who married Edith Lord; Marvin E. Bridgewater; and Morris Ervin Bridgewater who married Hazel Fern McNeely.

Minnie died on 20 February 1936 and Olaus on 29 December 1954; they were buried next to each other in Hopewell Cemetery, Vienna, Scott Co., Indiana.
