Geneva Pauline Bottom, 87, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2010. Geneva was born on October 8, 1923, in Eldorado, OK, to Oscar S. and Charlsie Canolia Brewer. She graduated from high school in Mangum, OK, in 1941. Geneva was active and involved as a high school teenager, participating in chorus, band, and orchestra. She maintained great pride in her school and graduating class and was active in the Mangum High School Alumni Association. Only failing health in recent years kept her from helping plan and stage the Association's annual reunion and "breakout sessions" at Quartz Mountain State Lodge. On June 27, 1944, Geneva married the love for her life, Herman Henry Bottom, in Starksville, MS. To that union three children were born. Geneva devoted her entire life to her husband and children. No women ever took those roles more to heart. She found her soul mate in Herman and loved, cared for, and supported him beyond measure until his death in 1992. She was a devoted and nurturing mother; always there with a loving hug, a kind word, and wise guidance. Have delayed for twenty-eight years her college education, at the age of 46 and in the Fall of 1969, Geneva along with her daughter enrolled as a freshman at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK. Four years later, the two of them graduated together, with Geneva obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Library Science. While making the family's home in Weatherford and attending college, she worked as an office nurse for Dr. John Leatherman. Following her college graduation, Geneva began a career in vocational education at the Western Oklahoma Vo-Tech School in Burns Flat, OK. Vocational Education was then in its infancy in Oklahoma, and Geneva was an early and vocal champion of the cause. She enjoyed immensely many memories of her travels across the country in that role. Geneva loved music. She was accomplished on the clarinet and the piano. She loved to sing, and her strong soprano voice lent itself to church choirs everywhere she lived. Church hymns from her childhood and sousa marches from the war years her particular favorites. Geneva enjoyed cooking and entertaining. When her family or her guests enjoyed one of her feasts, it showed, and her pleasure in that was immeasurable. Mrs. Bottom was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; a brother, Haston Brewer; and two sisters, Lola Deadman and Bessie Barker. She is survived by her sister, Joan Harris and husband Ed, two sons, Grayson Bottom and wife Frankie, Clinton, Monty Bottom and wife Harriette, Oklahoma City, OK and a daughter, Ann Larue Morgan and her husband Gary, Oklahoma City, OK. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Brian Bottom and wife Kristin, Lindsey Bottom, Garrett Morgan and wife Candice, Aaron Morgan, Kyle Stanhouse, Hannah Bottom, Nick Hise and wife Deyvon, Beth Hise, Henry Hise and Andrew Hise, and four great grandchildren, Kaydance Bottom, Graydon Bottom, Nevaeh Morgan, and Ashlynn Morgan, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whom she loved dearly.
