TRAVERSE CITY - Elizabeth "Gladys" Breithaupt, 81, of Traverse City, died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, with her family at her side at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. For many years she had struggled with Diabetes and severe heart problems.
Born April 26, 1922, in Cedar, she was the daughter of Belle Rose (Popa) and Bernard J. Stanislawski. Gladys married James J. Breithaupt Aug. 10, 1940, in Isadore.
Gladys' love and pride for her family cannot be measured. True blessings we were to her! She taught us lessons that can never be found in any book - lessons of true love, unending praise, hard work and unequivocal blessings. Her life and gifts of our lives will be treasured forever.
Gladys was employed over the years as a Michigan Bell Telephone operator, a housekeeper at Interlochen Arts Academy and as a press operator at Four Stars, Inc. She also continually farmed with her husband their entire time together.
Gladys enjoyed collecting Avon and salt and pepper shakers, playing cards and bingo, and painting. She loved her music, especially playing her guitar, yodeling and whistling. She was an excellent cook and baker, never allowing anyone to leave her home without a good meal. Every activity and hobby brought fulfillment to her heart.
She will be forever missed by her four children, Phyllis G. Breithaupt of Cadillac, Sharon M. (Larry) Biedron of Traverse City, Jim (Arvena) Breithaupt Jr. of Thompsonville and Carolyn R. (Marlin "Sonny") Gutzka of Traverse City; the pride and joy of her life, her 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan Weber of Traverse City, Versel (Marie) McCrumb of Ann Arbor and Phyllis Breithaupt of Belleville.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, James, on May 24, 1987; a brother, Leonard Stanislawski; and numerous loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. Traverse City Record Eagle
