Children of J. J. & C. Breese. This stone appears to have had part of it broken off, then been laid flat in cement.

Lot sales book shows lot 84 owned by John J. Breese, no price recorded; a sale date of May 6, 1863 is written in a different hand. (For many lots, burials pre-date the recorded date of sale.)

1850 Census, Aurora, John J. Breeze, born about 1813 in New Jersey, had wife Caroline, born about 1816 Pennsylvania, (maiden name Breese?), Woodward Breeze, 2, born IL, and Aaron Babcock, 14, born New York are also in household. (Aaron may be Orin Babcock #74388737; he is not listed with his own family.)

1855 Illinois Census, Aurora, John Breese had a household of 4.

1860 Census, Aurora, John J. Brees, 45, born New Jersey, is a blacksmith, $10,000 in real estate, wife Caroline, 44, was born in Pennsylvania, children Woodward, 11, and Cary M., 2, were born in Illinois.

J.J. Breese was residing in Aurora in 1865, with a household of 5.

1867 Kane Co. directory lists John Breese, farmer, Aurora.

1870 census, Aurora, C. Breese, 51, female, born Pennsylvania, is residing with Wm., 21, and Carrie, 12, both born Illinois. Wm. is recorded as having $9000 in real estate, and Carrie has $5000 in real estate. C. Breese has $100 in personal property.

1880 Census, Aurora, Caroline Breese is recorded as 62, widowed (father born New Jersey, mother born Pennsylvania), C. M. Breese, 20, head of household, is single, a dressmaker.

Two of John & Caroline's children appear in Kane Co., Illinois marriage records (son William W., born about 1848, married Annie D. Locke in 1886, daughter Carrie M., born about 1866, married Anson Avery, son of Smith D. Avery & Catherine S. Densmore, born about 1859, in 1894).

William W. Breese also married Florence E. Young on 7 Aug 1870 in Kane Co., IL. (Parents are not named in this marriage record.) They were living in Nashville, Tennessee in 1880; "Woodard" was 31, a book publisher (parents recorded as born in Illinois), Florence was 24, born Illinois, and son Allen, 5, was born Illinois.

An Allen Breese, 42, born Illinois, is recorded in 1920 Census, Chicago, with wife Bertha, and daughter, Florence.

Carrie May Avery died 2 Oct 1924, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Burial 4 Oct 1924, Fairview cemetery, Santa Fe. See memorial # 110240580. Death record gives birth: 2 Oct 1857, Aurora, Illinois; parents John Brice and Caroline Brice, both born New York; husband Anson Avery. Anson Avery is buried at Afton Center Cemetery, DeKalb Co., IL, memorial # 67370522. Their children were Grace C., born Oct 1888 in Nebraska, and twins Raymond and Roland, born March 1890 in Illinois.

Aurora Daily Express, 22 March 1887: "Died. At Nashville, Tenn. March 12, Mrs. Caroline Breese, wife of the late J. J. Breese of this city. Mrs. Breese was long a resident of Aurora, but in the past year has resided with her son, W. W. Breese, of Nashville, Tenn."
