Hazel Breedlove Adams was born in Austin, Texas to Marvin Breedlove and Lula Green Breedlove on July 20, 1930. Hazel was the third child of seven Breedlove children. Hazel united at an early age with St. Peter's United methodist Church in Austin, Texas. The Breedlove family has been well established in the Austin area and family was always a central theme in Hazel's life.

Hazel received her formal education in the Austin Public Schools and graduated from Anderson High School in 1946. She excelled as a scholar and entered Samuel Huston College, (currently Huston-Tillotson University) at the age of 16 years old. Hazel earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Samuel Huston College in 1950.

After graduation from college Hazel married Raymond Smith in 1952 and to this union was born one son, Bruce Smith. During this time Raymond served in the United States Army and they traveled extensively as a military family.

In 1972 Hazel relocated to San Antonio, Texas and earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She taught kindergarten education in the San Antonio Independent School District until her retirement in 1994.

Hazel's commitment to service was important to her life at all times and was often seen in her participation with several organizations that were near and dear to her heart, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Wesley United Methodist Church where she served with the United Methodist Women and the Communion Stewardesses, Sunday School and Bible Study.

Hazel Breedlove Adams departed this life peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Breedlove and Lula Green Breedlove; brother Marvin Breedlove; sister Marie Thompson; brother Tommy Breedlove; brother-in-law John Hill.
