Amos was born in Viola, Arkansas. He married Lillian Lee Shelton in 1912 in Denton County, TX. They lived in Garza, TX which is now Lake Dallas, then in Denton, TX.
Amos was a lineman for the telephone company, drove a trolley, and worked at a canning factory. He had a brother in Denton who was a barber on the square, Eli Burnet Bratcher. He was the son of Jubilee Mack and Sarah Catharine Bradford Bratcher.
His children were Eunice Jeanette Mozingo, Amos G Bratcher, Jr., Enid Borth, and James C Bratcher. He had seven grandchildren at the time of his death.
