Arthur Quinten Branstetter of St. James passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 in his home after a lengthy illness at the age of 79 years and 4 days.
Arthur was born on August 6, 1920 in St. James, Missouri, the son of Thomas Michael and Sophia Marie Skouby Branstetter.
Arthur, (better known as Quinten) was united in marriage to Bernice Aletha Lorts on March 21, 1948 in the St. James Christian Church and to this union one son, Dennis, was born.
Quinten is survived by his wife Bernice Aletha Branstetter, his son, Dennis and wife Karen Branstetter, his sister: Nora and husband Charles Adams, all of St. James; and sister Glenda and husband Robert Moreland of Houghton, Louisana; two grandchildren; Jennifer and Andrew Branstetter of St. James and a host of family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Proceeding him in death are his parents and brother Iver Branstetter.
Quinten's quiet reserved personality was well known, and his love for his wife of 52 years was a special bond only a few get to know. He was especially proud of his son Dennis and daughter-in-law Karen. When he was out and about with his wife Bernice, he could be heard telling stories about Dennis, Jennifer and Andrew as only a father and grandfather could tell. Quinten also had immense love of the ground that had been strongly rooted in the family for years. Quinten was very active in the VFW 35608 organization of St. James, served nine years on the School Board and nineteen years on the County Board of Education. Quinten was currently serving on the Church Board of Directors as Deacon of the St. James Christian Church of which he had been a faithful member since 1948. He was known and loved for his quick wit and stories on every topic of conversation.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 13, 1999 at 11:00 am in the St. James Christian Church auditorium with Brother Dave Menge officiating. A musical tribute was offered by Don Davis with songs of "How Great Thou Art" and "Because He Lives". Connie Rhea played the organ. Pallbearers were Andrew Branstetter, Steve Lorts, Larry Aston, Don Branstetter, Brian Adams, and Jim Rinehart. Honorary pallbearers were members of the St. James Christian Church Board of Directors. Burial was in the St. James Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be given to the St. James Christian Church or the Phelps County Regional Medical Center Hospice Program.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
