PHOENIX Aaron Mark Brandt, 21, of Phoenix, passed from this life Thursday, July 5, in Phoenix.

Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Streator.

Born May 26, 1991, in Bloomington, he was the son of Mark and Marie (Hancin) Brandt. His parents survive in Phoenix.

He also is survived by his maternal grandmother, Janette Hancin, of Streator; paternal grandmother, Bernadine Brandt, of Gibson City; maternal aunts and uncles, Carrie Jane Hancin, of Peoria, Barbara (Rakesh) Hancin-Bhatt, of Champaign, Louis (Christina) Hancin, of Streator, Bill (Linda) Hancin, of Chillicothe, and Joe (Marta) Hancin, of Chicago; and paternal uncles, Neal (Diane) Brandt, of Gibson City, and Paul (Becky) Brandt, of Cropsey.

Aaron was a student at Mesa Community College and planned to pursue a degree in communications. A 2009 graduate of Desert Vista High School, he also attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Ahwatukee.

An avid soccer player, Aaron played college soccer at UCCS his freshman year. His Arizona soccer career included three years on the varsity team at Desert Vista High School. A highlight of his high school soccer career was scoring Desert Vista's goal during the state championship match in 2008 when the team finished as the runner-up in the 5-A tournament. He was elected captain of the Desert Vista team his senior year, and was the recipient of the team's Desert Vista Joe Sellah Leadership Award in 2009.

His Arizona club soccer experience included several years in the Arizona Futbol Club '91 team, SanTan Soccer Club '91 Legacy and Ahwatukee Soccer Club Fire and Galaxy. He was a camp counselor at the Arizona Soccer Camp in Pinetop, Ariz.

Aaron also loved snowboarding, downhill mountain biking, hiking and physical conditioning.

Aaron loved his family and friends. With his zest for life, he brought smiles to all who knew him. The world lost a little light in his passing, but it gained a star in heaven.
