Mrs. Sophie Atwood, formerly a Roscoe resident, died at 9:30 Tuesday night in a Beloit nursing home, following a long illness.
She was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, Nov. 21, 1871, and came to the United States with her parents when she was three years old. She was married to Charles Atwood on Nov. 21, 1897, in Roscoe, where she spent most of her life. She was a member of the Second Congregational church and the Friendly Neighbors club.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Louise McElroy, Beloit and Mrs. Emma Campbell, Rockford; and two brothers, Frederick Brandt, South Beloit, and William, Rosoce. Her husband died in 1929 and a brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer chapel, the Rev. Robert Y. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Roscoe cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday.
