Alice M. "Mary Alice" (Eckel) Brandt, 70. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and Christian of DeKalb, formerly of Freeport, IL, was called home by the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2005 at the DeKalb County Nursing Home. She was born November 5, 1934 in Bellevue, IA. The daughter of Francis J. and Rosemary (Binz) Eckel. Valedictorian of Savanna Township High School class of 1952 and Cum Laude at Mt. St. Clare College. Married Paul R. Brandt in ST. John The Baptist Church on August 16, 1958 in Savanna, IL. Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport, IL. Alice enjoyed reading, music, writing letters, playing cards, but most of all spending time with her family and friends. She taught Catechism classes at St. Anne's in Oswego and St. Patrick's in Rochelle for many years. She donated blood for more than 25 years.
Survivors include children; Thomas (Sandra) of Kemah, TX, Terrence (Venda) of Buckhannon, WV, David (Jillynn) of Montgomery, IL, Christine Nelson of Rochelle, IL, John (Renee) of Sugar Grove, IL, and Michael of Rochell; thirteen grandchildren; sisters, Frances "Lynn" (Mitchell) Davenport, Patricia (David) Rollins; brother, John (Ann) Eckel; uncle, Harold (Eunice) Eckel; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alice was predeceased by her parents; husband, son, Joseph; and baby sister, Donna.
Visitation Tuesday, September 6, 2005 from 6-8pm with a rosary at 7:45 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel. Funeral mass will be said at 10 am, Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, Rockford, with the Rev. David Beauvais officiating. Also, visitation from 9 am to time of service at the church. Christian burial at Calvary Cemetery in Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
