Mrs. Alice Catherine Adkins, 94, of 12435 Creagerstown Rd., Thurmont, died Friday, Feb. 11, at Frederick Healthcare Center. She was the wife of Charles Emmert Adkins, who died April 23, 1976.
Born Sept. 13, 1899, in Harmony, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Clayton and Clara Mae Alexander Brandenburg. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Adkins was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Middletown; the Pleasant Grove Homemakers Club, where she was an active member for 46 years; and the Pleasant Grove Women's Society. She was a life member of the ladies auxiliary ofthe New Market Volunteer Fire Co. She attended Food and Friends in Woodsboro and was an avid bingo player.
Surviving are seven daughters, Hilda Wiles and Phyllis Kolb and her husband Preston, all of Frederick, Mildred Shafer and her husband Earl of Alexandria, VA., Virginia McMath ofAnnandale, VA., Frances Grimm and Shirley Smith and her husband Clayton, all of Jefferson; Barbara Kolb of Rocky Ridge; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Adkins was preceeded in death by a daughter, Freda Eigenbrode in August 1974; a grandson, Steven Wiles in 1960; twin great-granddaughters, and a great-great-grandson Alen Wiles in August 1993. She was also preceeded in death by five sons-in-law, Ray Wiles, John Grimm, William Kolb, Robert McMath, and Paul Eigenbrode; nine brothers, and two sisters.
