Rural Carrier Dies Suddenly
Leslie C. Brandenburg, prominent cattle breeder and rural mail carrier, died suddenly of a heart attack Monday evening at his home near Middletown.
Ailing for the past week, he had not carried the mail. He was conversing with his family when stricken suddenly with the fatal attack.
He was born January 2, 1894, a son of the late Samuel C. and Clara Alexander Brandenburg, at Harmony where he became prominently connected with the Harmony Band, and only recently reorganized that group, acting as the director.
Starting with the post office service at Myersville 29 years ago, he was rural carrier out of the Middletown office.
As a farmer, he became prominently connected with the Frederick County Guernsey Cattle Breeders Association of which he was a member and one of this district's most successful breeders of Guernsey stock.
He was a member of the Middletown Christ Reformed church, the Andrew and Phillip Bible Class of the Sunday School, and of the Maryland Rural Mail Carriers Association and Middletown Grange.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Annie Waters Brandenburg, and a daughter, Mrs. Emmamae Morgan, Greenbelt (note, obit omitted his son, Bruce Brandenburg); these brothers and sisters, Mrs. Clarence Waters, Middletown, John Brandenburg, Harmony, Charles Brandenburg, near Myersville, Mrs. Mary Burkholder and Russell Brandenburg, Hagerstown, Leo Brandenburg, Braddock Heights, Glen Brandenburg in Texas, Mrs. Emmert Adkins, New Midway.
The body will be moved to the late home this evening at seven o'clock where friends are invited to call. Funeral services will be held from late home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock (est). Rev. Warren A Breisch, pastor of the deceased, will officiate. Interment in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Middletown. Paul F. Bittle, funeral director.
