Jane Ann Hansel, 72, of Guttenberg passed away following a brief illness, Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Visitation was one hour before services at the church. Funeral services were Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Jane Ann Brandel was born Feb. 1, 1937, to Leonard "Lenny" and Catherine "Kate" Brandel in Dubuque. She married Edwin Schneider on July 16, 1955, in Dubuque. They had seven children and later divorced in 1983. She married Lester Lee Hansel on Dec. 30, 1988, in Guttenberg.

Jane was a homemaker and was famous for her cooking, especially potato salad. She passed along many of her recipes to her daughters and daughters-in-law who could never quite make it as good as mom's. She loved to garden and watch the hummingbirds come to the feeders. Jane and Les were snowbirds, heading south to Texas each winter. She enjoyed bingo, potlucks and walking along the beach collecting seashells and other finds and visiting the pier in Port Aransas, Texas, with Lester.

Survivors include her husband, Les Hansel; daughter, Diane Greve and husband Kenny of Guttenberg; son, Greg Schneider and wife, Debbie of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Linda Kremer of Dubuque, daughter, Connie Schneider of Farmington, Minn.; twin son, Don Schneider and wife, Jody of North Liberty, twin son, Ron Schneider and wife Denise of Guttenberg and son, Doug Schneider and wife Pat of Vinton.

Surviving siblings include twin brother, John "Jack" Brandel and wife, Jane of Dubuque, brother, Gerald "Dewey" Brandel and wife, Bernice of Dubuque, brother, Robert "Bob" Brandel and wife, Carol of Dubuque and brother, Timothy Brandel and wife, Debra "Deb" of Dubuque,

Grandchildren include, Jeremy and Kelsey Greve of Guttenberg, Candice Schneider of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kyle Stryker of Dover, Del., Gwen Kremer of Cedar Rapids, Matthew Kremer of Iowa City, Alexis Schneider-Brock of Farmington, Minn., Cody and Conor Schneider of North Liberty, Lori and Brody Schneider of Guttenberg, Emily and Riley Schneider of Vinton. Great-grandchildren are Luke Mehrtens and Lily Stryker of Dover, Del. Jane is also survived by a step-son, Randy Hansel and his daughters, April and Heather, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
