James F. Braly
James F. Braly died at his home at Argo, July 3, aged 62 years and 24 days. he had been sick for several months with consumption, but after battling heroically with disease he was finally overcome.
James F. Braly was a well-known and highly respected Christian man. he was raised in Crawford county and spent the greater part of his life in this and Franklin counties. he is a son of Rev. James B. Braly, of precious memory. he proffessed faith in Christ in the fall of 1852 at the early age of 15 years, and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of which he was made a ruling elder in 1857; he was shortly after this made clerk of his session, in which capacities he was a faithful and tireless worker for his Lord and the church until the Father said, It is enough, come up higher. Brother Braly has always been the leader of his community in religious work; he has conducted prayer meetings, superintended the Sunday school, led the people in singing, and ever held up the arms of his pastor at Old Argo. We have missed him since he became feeble, but now we will miss him more that he is gone. he will be missed not only in his own community, but other people will miss him, and his fatherly counsel will be sought for in vain in the assemblies where his voice was often heard.
In 1857 he was married to Elizabeth A. Mitchell: Eight children were born to them, six of which are living. The funeral service was conducted by the writer at the grave, after which we laid him away to await the glorious resurrection morn.
