Velma Corneilia Atkinson
Velma Cornelia Atkinson, of Evensville, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Laurelbrook Nursing Home on Dayton Mountain. She was 93.
Born July 13, 1906, in Rainbow City, Ala., Mrs. Atkinson lived in the Clear Creek community in Evensville since 1928. She was a homemaker by trade and attended Clear Creek Baptist Church in Evensville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Melissa Burns Brady; husband, James Elvia Atkinson Sr. who died Nov. 3, 1973; and son, James E. Atkinson Jr..
Survivors include her son, John C. Atkinson of Evensville; daughter, Lila C. Hughes of Jasper; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 21, at Smyrna Cemetery in Evensville with Rev. Everett Powers officiating. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements
