"Death of Mrs. Mary R. Bradley
Died at her residence in Fairfield, Texas on Wednesday, August 24th, 1887 after a illness of several months of consumption, Mrs. Mary R. Bradley, wife of the late Judge L. D. Bradley, aged about 47.
The deceased was one of the best known ladies of our town being one of the oldest residents. She was a daughter of Dr. S. G. Grayson, an old citizen of this county who died many years since. She was born in Wilcox County, Alabama and came with her parents to Freestone about 1853 and and been a resident of the county ever since living most of the time in Fairfield. Mrs. Bradley was quite an intelligent lady and was informed on many subjects, acquired from the great fondness for reading. She was but little given to the pleasures of society; preferring the quiet retirement of her home and company of her family to whom she was devotedly attached and for whom no service or self denial was too great for her to make. She was always a devoted wife and a most affectionate mother.
About a year ago it was noticed by some that her health was beginning to fail though she kept up until compelled to take her bed. Like many others she indulged in the hope
that a favorable change would restore her health and it was a long time ere she would recognize the sad dread reality; for when the conviction came that she could not recover, she yielded to the inevitable and bore utmost bravely ending the ordeal of physical suffering and pain of family seperation which the future had in store.
The deceased leaves to mourn the irreparable loss of a mother, a family of nine children, six daughters and three sons, the youngest child being a little girl about seven years old. She leaves also four sisters and three brothers living in this and the adjoining counties of Leon and Limestone. Her remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in Fairfield Cemetery yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. C. M. Keith officiating. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends were in attendance on this sad occasion.
The deepest sympathies of our community go out to the bereaved ones who have been made to feel in less than a year the great loss of both father and mother."
