LORA JEAN ALBRIGHT, 93, FORMER REPRESENTATIVE
Lora Jean Albright, 93, a former state representative and Juliaetta resident, died Sunday morning at Lewiston's Hillview Care Center of causes related to aging.
She was born March 23, 1898, to James Ira and Mary Grace Lockwood Brackett in Mora, Minn.
She obtained a teaching certificate at the University of Idaho in 1916, and then enrolled in Lewiston State Normal School, now Lewis-Clark State College.
She married Raleigh W. Albright in Lookout, Idaho, on May 7, 1918. He died in 1977.
She was an elementary school teacher from 1916 to 1918.
She homesteaded on a farm in partnership with her husband, near Arrow Junction, and was also co-owner of Albright's Turkeys and Farm.
She was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 1949 to 1951.
Some positions she held were: member, governor's interim study committee to survey state medical programs, 1953-55; chairwoman, mental health division, State Board of Health, 1955-57; president of Nez Perce County Mental Health Assoc.; state chairwoman, American Mothers Committee, which also named her Idaho mother of the year in 1955.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Mayflower Descendants, Idaho. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggie Stedman of Lapwai, and Bonnie Hayton of Cos Cob, Conn.; two sons, James Albright of Spalding, and Rolan Albright of Roundup, Mont.; four sisters, Elizabeth Beery of San Dimas, Calif., Ruth Mehl of Seattle, Joyce Mitbo of Longview, Wash., and Mary Grace Cox of Jerome, Idaho; and one brother, Charles Brackett of Reubens, Idaho. A sister and three brothers died earlier.
Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brower-Wann Chapel. There will be private burial services.
The family has suggested memorials to the Kendrick Methodist Church, Kendrick, Idaho.
