Barbara was the daughter of Alfred E. and Ruth M. (Pearl) Brackett, and was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1944.
Barbara married Homer Hinkley on Nov. 15, 1953, in Auburn.
She worked at the East Auburn IGA for many years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Turner Extension, Turner Ladies Circle, Turner Natural History and the Universalist Church of Auburn.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Homer of Turner; two sons, Gary Hinkley and his wife, Lynne-Cayting, and their daughter, Jennifer Cayting, of Manchester, and Lt. Col. John C. "Jack" Hinkley and his wife, Tammy, of Laurel, Md., and their three children, Jenna, Chase and Miranda "Randy" Hinkley, all of Maryland; two daughters, Jo-Ann Day and her fiancÚ, Richard Lajoie, and their children, Ryan Day and Chad Day, of Turner, and Patricia "Tricia" Christman and her husband, Mark, and their child, Eli Christman, of Greene; two brothers, Norman Brackett and his wife, Marylin, of Norway, and Roger Brackett of Florida; and one sister, Arlene Ouellette of Lisbon.
She was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Vachon.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of 2 West at d'Youville Pavilion and the Androscoggin Hospice Care for all their devoted time and caring.
