Ashbel Bozard was 85 Years Old and Resided in Allegany

OLEAN - Ashbel L. Bozard, 85 years old, a Civil War veteran, died in his home in Allegany, just west of here, yesterday. Mr. Bozard was born on Bozard Hill, town of Humphrey, February 14, 1841, and he lived in Cattaraugus County his entire lifetime. He was a resident of the village of Allegany the last 28 years.

Mr. Bozard enlisted in the Civil War in the 154th New York Volunteers, August 6, 1862, in Jamestown and was sent home disabled December 29th of the same year. After he recovered his health, he re-enlisted September 12, 1864, with the 188th Regiment, Company C, New York, and he received his discharge papers June 1, 1865, in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Catherine G. Conlan Bozard; two sons, F.A. Bozard and Ralph R. Bozard, of Allegany; two daughters, Mrs. Sidney Hale and Mrs. Albert Rehler, of Allegany; two brothers, and five grandchildren.

Held Funeral of A. Bozard

Funeral services for Ashbel L. Bozard, a Civil War veteran, who died at his home on D_y Street, Allegany, Saturday morning, were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the First Presbyterian church of Allegany. The Rev. A. Frank Houser, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Olean, and the Rev. F.B. Schriner, pastor of the Fi Church of Allegany, officiated. Burial was in the Protestant cemetery, Allegany.

The pall-bearers were members of the American Legion: Fred Lemon, Lynn Brown, Clarence Deiterman, Francis Meyers, Clair Welch and Duncan McCrea. The firing squad was cf Clarence Smith, Lawrence Boser, F.L. Thomas and George Harbel. Edward Walley was the bugler at the grave.

The out-of-town friends and relatives at the services were Mr. and Mrs. J.W. North of Whitsboro, NY; Mr. and Mrs. John Conlan and Paul Moran of Coudersport; Frank Rose of Buffalo; Mrs. Charles Watriss, Mrs. Walter Storms and Frank Rose of Bradford, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bozard, Louis Reed and Mrs. Frank Haley of Humphrey; Edward Conlan, Mrs. Thomas Conlan, Owen Conlan, Helena Hogan, Mrs. Q. Brown, Newell Lowe, Samuel Sweet, Mrs. A. Washburn of Salamanca; R.W. Rust of Springville, N.Y.; Mrs. Lauer of Warren, Pa.; Mrs. Julia Bozard of East Aurora; Mrs. William Ryan and family of Chipmonk; and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bozard of Hinsdale.
