Jane Boyles was the daughter of Simon and Harriet Boyles.

On August 30, 1861, Jane married Abisha Ashcraft in Crawford County. Abisha had been divorced by his first wife, Melissa Susan Abell on Apr 5, 1859 in Crawford County, Indiana.

Jane and Abisha were the parents of four documented children:
Anna b. 16 Jun 1863
Alvina Josephine b. 2 Jun 1864
Sarah b. 4 May 1868
Samson b. 22 Mar 1871

On 29 Oct 1872 Abisha and Jane were divorced in Crawford County. Abisha abandoned his family and ended up in Missouri where he again remarried.

Jane was left to fend for herself, so she made the heartbreaking decision to indenture three of her children to separate families in Dubois County.

Alvina age 13 went to the Joseph Kippenbock family where they changed her name to Josephine. After leaving the Kippenbock family, Josephine married Phillip Schlacter.

Sarah age 7 was bonded to the Henry Kolmesher (aka Kolmetscher) family for 13-1/2 years and they changed her name to Mary/Maria Ann Kohmescher.

Samson age 6 was bound out to the Henry Lubbehusen family in Dubois County Indiana and they changed his name to Frank Lubbehusen.

Her oldest daughter Anna married several times; the last marriage to Amos Kress. Anna and Amos raised two of her sister Josephine's children, Emma and John Michael. They moved to Jackson, Tennessee.

Jane died while living at the Crawford County Poor Farm and is buried in their cemetery in an unmarked grave.

NOTE: There were two Poor Farm cemeteries. Cemetery I was destroyed when I64 was built and 18 graves were removed and reinterred in English cemetery. Cemetery II is located off Curby road at Centerville. The earliest documented burials are 1888.
