Newport-Jean M. Beem, 77, died at her home on Sebasticook Lake Sept. 5, 2009, with her loving family by her side. She was born March 4, 1932 in Newport, a daughter of Frank and Glennie (Langley) Boylan. She graduated from Newport High School, class of 1950, and married Lewis "Jupe" Beem on Nov. 10, 1951. Before she was married, she worked for the East Newport Store and East Newport Post Office. She and her husband owned and operated the family dairy farm in Corinna for 20 years. Jean worked as a bookkeeper for R. I. "Razor" Crosman and Sebasticook Valley Packers for many years, and also was employed at Hood's Dairy and Peoples Bank in Pittsfield.
She is survived by two sons -- Gary and wife Amy Beem, of Palmyra, and Stephen Beem of Newport; four daughters -- Rebecca and husband Kent Hart of Hampden, Kathryn Beem of North Yarmouth, Donna and husband Mike Cray of Palmyra, and Tammy and husband Mark Ellis of Topsham; a brother, Lauris Boylan; five sisters -- Karlene, Linda, and Muriel Boylan, Lorraine and husband Dick Stone, and Arlene Mullis, all of Newport; 11 grandchildren -- Karen Cukierski, Michelle Michaud, Kristina Glidden, Melinda and Kelly Hart, Amanda Peterson, Jennifer Watson, Tonya Cray, Matthew Ellis, Eli and Sierra Beem; four stepgrandchildren -- Ian Mallory, Chelsea Weymouth, Brittany Janvrin, and Melissa Eaton; six great-grandchildren -- Chase Peterson, Jack and Luke Cukierski, Megan Watson, Seth Bowden and Benjamin Michaud; six step great grandchildren -- her grandchildren were her world; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1998; a brother, Stanley Boylan; and a sister, Lucille Gregoire.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Morse's Corner Cemetery, Corinna. (Morning Sentinel 9/7/2009)
