Lillian Mae Boyd Benham of Avoca, IN, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 11, 1916, she was the daughter of William Oral and Osa L. (O'Neil) Boyd. She married Lawrence E. Benham on February 5, 1938, and he died on May 4, 2002.
Surviving are one son, John Benham of Avoca, IN; three daughters: Mary Kay Youngquist of Atlanta, FA, Malinda Morris of Bedford, IN, and Carolyn Dengate of Shalimar, FL; fourteen grandchildren, two grandsons whom she helped raise at home, Bret Youngquist of Marshall, VA and Stephen Youngquist of Bloomington, IN; eight great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Harold Benham of Bedford, IN; and two sisters-in-law, Vera Poole of Oolitic, IN, and June Fiddler of Decatur, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Viola Rose Gillespie; and one grandson, Robert Franklin Kinder in 1968.
She was a homemaker. She was a 1934 graduate of Needmore High School and also graduated from Central Normal College in Danville, IL. She was a former Girl Scout leader, a member of the Psi Iota Xi, Dunn Pink Ladies, and Avoca Baptist Church.
Services for Lillian Benham will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. James E. Jones and the Revs. Robert Kirkman and Kyle Witmer officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca.
