He was a Confederate soldier with Bryan's Battery

Alexander married Amanda Jane Leach (daughter of Ann Priscella Drummond and Edmund Leach) in 1870 in Union, Monroe County, West Virginia. Ann Priscella Drummond Leach was daughter of George Drummond (who died in 1824 by drowning in Monroe County) and Esther Boyd (daughter of Patrick Boyd and Ann McDowell). Ann Priscella Drummond was sister of James Patrick Drummond who moved with his wife Sydney Nickell in 1836 to Jamesport, Missouri. The Leach family was the only Drummonds to stay in West Virginia. The death certificate for children of Amanda Boyd shows her mother as Amanda Jane Summond which is incorrect. Her mother's name was Ann Priscella Drummond.
