Ms. Boyd died Nov. 8, 2011, after a brief illness at a Temple hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1959, in Nashville, Ga., the fourth child of Sylvester and Iona Copeland. She traveled around the world with her parents, since her father was in the Army. She attended schools in Mannheim and Kaiserslautern, Germany, and completed school in Killeen, graduating from Killeen High School.
Ms. Boyd worked most of her young life. One of her first jobs was at Bell Haven Nursing Home in Killeen, for about five years. She also was a part-time employee at Wind Crest Nursing Home. She was a longtime certified nurse's assistant and worked at Bennett Clinic at Fort Hood. She was employed for 12 years as a contractor and as a civilian employee for the last three years. She had two children, Cory Ogletree and Vandora Boyd.
She had numerous acquaintances and friends, as she loved people and her job. She met former President Bush at one of the clinics and took a picture with him. She always had a big smile and a sense of humor.
Ms. Boyd was preceded in death by her mother, Iona P. Copeland; and her daughter, Vandora Boyd.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include her son, Cory Ogletree; three wonderful grandchildren, Joeleel, Iona and Ginger; her father, Sylvester and his wife, Doris, of Killeen; five sisters, Gloria (Lee) of Killeen, Wanda of Copperas Cove, Marles of Houston, Darlene of Round Rock and Gwendolyn of Angleton; a brother, Sylvester Copeland III (Kelly) of Houston; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
