Son of Joseph Ellic Boyd. He married Sarah Elizabeth Ponder on Jan. 24, 1867 in Lebanon, TN. Their children were Bennie, Letha, Mattie, George, Nettie, James W., Robert Stephen and Mary Ellen Boyd.
