Sidney Stinnett Boyce of Amarillo died October 12, 2014.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jo Roberts Craig officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Sidney was born in 1931 in Amarillo to Beaumont Stinnett and Peggy Masterson Stinnett both from pioneering families. Many of Sidney’s forbearers have been ranching in West Texas and the Panhandle since the 1870s as they continue to do so to this day.

Sidney graduated with honors from Amarillo High in 1949. She then began attending the University of Texas at Austin majoring in English. While home for the holidays, she met her future husband, John, at a Christmas tea given by his mother. John, a West Point graduate, was attending the Wharton School of Finance and had returned home for the summer to work with his father, John K. Boyce, Sr. in the Williams-Boyce Insurance Agency. They were married at St. Andrew’s in 1952.

Sidney was proud to be a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority from which she derived many lifelong friendships. She served as treasurer of the local alumna association for many years.

Perhaps her life was at its most fulfilling as wife to John and as mother to four sons. She said on many occasions that she missed the constant activity of her family growing up at home. When they had left the home, she continued to serve as a source of stability with grace.

She was preceded in death by her sister Laurel in 2009 and brother Ben in 1966.

Sidney is survived by her husband of 62 years, John, four sons, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews and eighteen grandnieces and nephews. These include sons, John K. Boyce III, wife Vicki and daughter Olivia Leighton Stinnett Boyce; Beaumont Stinnett Boyce, wife Ainslee and children Carol-Sidney Simmons and husband, Houston, Beaumont Stinnett Boyce Jr. and wife Jordan, George Lindsey Boyce and Mary-Claire Masterson Boyce; son Peter Masterson Boyce, wife Maureen and their children, Anna Eliza Boyce, Samuel Masterson Boyce and Molly Maureen Boyce; William Curtis Boyce, wife Suzanne and son William Curtis Boyce Jr.; great grandchildren Boyce and Ainslee Simmons. Also, she is survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret Cannon Boyce Brown, Anne Dryden Boyce, and brother-in-law James Curtis Boyce.

The family deeply thanks the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who allowed her life her last days in peace and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to: St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas 79102; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 3611 S. Soncy Road, Suite 6A, Amarillo, Texas 79119; or a charity of your choice.
