Donald Eugene Bowman, 80, died on Monday afternoon, September 6, 2010, in Baltimore, Md.

Don was born in July of 1930 in Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late John Peter Bowman and Delia Sink Fry, where he attended public schools. He was a 1952 NROTC graduate of the University of Wisconsin and had advanced degrees from Harvard, 1973 and Stanford, 1978. He was a financial consultant, joining T. Rowe Price in 1956 from the teaching staff of the United States Naval Academy. From President and CEO of T.R.P., he retired in 1979 to form Bowman Financial Management Company. He was a board member of many businesses and an advisor to government and educational institutions, including ERISA in Washington, Loyola University, Towson State University, University of Baltimore and St. Pauls School. He served as board member for some, as well as teacher and fund raiser. He was an active Reserve Naval Intelligence Captain. During the Korean War he served on the carrier FDR, CV-42 and then at the Naval Academy. From 1979 to 1982 he commanded the Mid-Atlantic Reserve Intelligence Area 19, the Navy's largest. He attended the United States Naval War College in 1972 in Newport, R.I. He was always an advocate for naval power and served on active duty in various intelligence functions.

In 1952 he married Louise Woodford of Madison, Wis. He leaves his wife; two children, Clarke W. Bowman and Mary Louise (Missy) W. Bowman; two grandchildren; and his brother, Horace Levi Bowman and wife, Yasuko.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Merritt.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held in the Angle Cemetery, Franklin County 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010, with the Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 10, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
