Bunker Hill Press, 1909. Pioneer Gone, Eli H. Bowman Died Saturday Afternoon. Came to Miami County in 1837. Was a Well Known Contractor.
Eli H. Bowman, who was one of the best known men in this vicinity, died at his home on North Elm street Saturday afternoon. Mr. Bowman has been in poor health for several years. With his family he has lived in Bunker Hill for many years. Until the last few years Mr. Bowman worked at the carpenter trade and it is said that he built more houses and barns in the southern part of this county than any other one man.
Eli H. Bowman, third son of Thomas and Nancy Bowman, was born in Putnam county, Ohio, Sept. 15, 1833, died at his home in Bunker Hill Dec. 25, 1909; aged 79 years, 3 months and 10 days. When quite a samll boy he came with his parents to Indiana where they located on a farm north of Converse. In the year 1857 he united in marriage with Miss Sarah E. Deal. To this union were born four children, the oldest dying in infancy. Those left with the mother to mourn his loss are Cora I, Lamont and Mrs. Pearl Rohrer.
Funeral services were conducted at the residence Monday at 2 p.m. consisting of songs by Miss Mabel Sarah and Mrs. McIlwain, prayer by Rev. Fish and address by Rev. Sarah, who spoke of Mr. Bowman as a good man who strictly attended to his own business and spoke evil of no one. He was a useful and highly respected citizen. Interment in Springdale cemetery.
